A focus target group of our labor market actions are migrants returning from Germany and third countries. In a 2017 research we mapped the reintegration needs in the employment sector on municipal level and identified obstacles in the economic reintegration of returnees. The biggest challenge in this regard is the gap between the skills that returnee job-seekers possess and the skills that employers request. We are trying to close this gap by adopting accordingly active labor market measures like vocational education and training, self-employment grants, and internships. Through these measures we strengthen the employability of this vulnerable group and support their long term integration into the labor market. Together with the Kosovar Ministry of internal Affairs (MIA) we supported more than 400 returnee entrepreneurs with startup grants and subsequent mentoring of the beneficiaries for business development. In this effort and beyond we are joining forces with the German Information Points for Migration, Vocational Training and Careers Advice (DIMAK). Our experiences and technical assistance also entered into the development of the Strategy for Reintegration of Repatriated Persons of Kosovo 2018 – 2021 and the empowerment of employment offices staff through target-group specific trainings.
